About Me

I spent my childhood in Bramhall in Cheshire and in a little village called Ewyas Harold in Herefordshire. Leaving School in Alderley Edge, I wanted to be a theatre director but at that time there was no training and no job possibilities for women and so I started my own theatre company touring around the Manchester area. A little later I gained a Dip.Ed at Mather College, Manchester and then decided to aim higher and studied Law and Politics at the London School of Economics. Deciding to become a Barrister I became a member of Middle Temple. Interesting though I found the Criminal Law, I returned to my first love of the theatre and I have spent my career thus far as a writer, theatre director and radio producer.

I have run 3 Repertory Theatres, The Pitlochry Festival Theatre, The Chester Gateway Theatre and the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton and directed over 150 Theatre productions. Music is very important to me and I have written the lyrics for several musicals.

For 13 years I worked for the BBC as Senior Drama Producer and writer for Radio 3 and Radio 4 in London and Birmingham, and have to date directed over 300 plays. I had wonderful well-known casts and marvelous musicians in productions Radio awards included Sony Gold & CRE (Commission for Racial Equality) and Talkies Award for THE PIANO.

I have had a very satisfying career in the media but reached a point where I wanted to give something back and teach others what I had learnt. So, for 6 years, I became Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before leaving in 2013 to resume my freelance career. I have been lucky to have directed in Theatres all over the British Isles, most recently The Mill at Sonning, The Bristol Old Vic, The Tobacco Factory and The New Vic at Stoke on Trent.

I love the ‘ mix’ in my life and that includes writing. plays, short stories and poetry. My latest credit is the touring production ‘Larkin’About’ based on the wit, words and women in Philip Larkin’s life. As a Freelance Radio Director I have directed THE ARCHERS and I tour with a stage production of and AN EVENING WITH SUNNY ORMONDE (Lilian Bellamy from The Archers.)

I am now a trained Celebrant, Co-Counsellor and attend a local Death Café. I love my life, travel, reading and the countryside. I live in Stratford on Avon with my very special partner of over 30 years, my son Jake and cat Hecky Thump.
